Turning Up the Volume Turcom Style

Portable speakers have changed a lot over the years. Remember the days of Aerosmith and Run DMC? Remember holding that huge boom box on your shoulder (all 10kg of it) just so you could blare your favourite track and show everybody how cool you were?

...Just me?

Well, thankfully those days are over, and portable speakers are now, well, seriously portable. We review a little and a large portable stereo from Turcom, perfect for the next time you need music on the go.

Turcom Titan TS - 455

Turcom portable speaker next to an iPhone

The Turcom Titan TS - 455 is a pretty remarkable little device. It can withstand water exposure in case you spill something on it or get caught in heavy rain, it's Bluetooth compatible, produces some serious sound, and is roughly the same size as an iPhone 6. As we found out, the Titan TS - 455 is the perfect companion for your next camping adventure.

Obviously the size of the Titan TS - 455 makes it easy to transport and carry around, but the robustness of the aluminum alloy shell casing means you don't have to stress about dropping it (or the kids destroying it for that matter).

As well as the standard features you would expect from a portable stereo, the Titan TS - 455 also has a digital microphone that allows hands-free calls and an energy-saving auto-sleep function.

The controls are all very simple and easy to use, as is the Bluetooth function. To test this out – on both Turcom speakers we reviewed – the old, 'no reading of the instructions test' was used. Within 30 seconds we managed to connect to Bluetooth and start pumping our favourite jams. It could not have been any easier.

Turcom AcoustoShock TS - 903

The second Turcom portable speaker we tested and reviewed was the AcoustoShock TS - 903. This is much larger than the Titan TS - 455 and is ideal for those who fancy a bit more power, or who are camping with larger accommodation, i.e. a large caravan or cabin.

To give you an idea of the additional power output, the AcoustoShock TS - 903 is three times more powerful than the Titan TS - 455. The sound is crisp and has bass for days thanks to a 3" x 2" subwoofer. The sound quality is the standout feature of the AcoustoShock TS - 903, so much so that it could easily be used for parties or social BBQs.

We used the 'no instructions' test again and were able to connect to Bluetooth and get the tunes pumping almost immediately. The control panel is simple and easy to navigate with no extraneous buttons, which simply means there are less things you can get wrong.

The AcoustoShock TS - 903 is designed to be portable (tipping the scales at 650 grams) and features a retractable handle so that you can carry it around.

The connection range for Bluetooth devices is the same as the Titan TS - 455 at 10 metres, and it also features an integrated microphone that allows hands-free phone conversations.

The casing of the AcoustoShock TS - 903 is almost bullet proof. It's shock resistant, dust and dirt proof, as well as water resistant. The AcoustoShock TS - 903 really is built for the harshest of conditions.
